As part of the multidisciplinary and holistic approach to patient care, patients have access to Nutrition Services while receiving care at the NICoE.
TBI Outpatient Program
Outpatients can request an individual appointment with a registered dietitian who can assess and educate patients to optimize their diets to support healing.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
- During the NICoE IOP, a dietitian teaches group nutrition classes and sees patients individually to create personalized meal plans.
- The small group classes focus on the anti-inflammatory diet for brain health, practical healthy eating strategies and mindful eating topics.
- The dietitian provides evidence-based nutrition education as well as practical tools to help support long-term healthier eating habits.
What are the benefits of Medical Nutrition Therapy after Brain Injury?
Research has shown that dietary changes may help relieve symptoms that might complicate recovery from a traumatic brain injury (TBI), such as chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. It is common after a brain injury to have difficulty maintaining a healthy body weight and working with a dietitian can assist service members in healthy weight maintenance.
The Registered Dietitian can provide individual meal plans centered on the anti-inflammatory diet to help support healing and improve overall health and wellness.
