Meniere's Disease

Meniere’s disease is a rare disorder of the inner ear that affects balance and hearing. The most common symptoms include:

  • Hearing loss.
  • A feeling of fullness in the ear.
  • Vertigo (dizziness).
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ear).

Meniere’s disease usually only affects one ear (unilateral), but there is no evidence showing that it affects one side more than the other. The cause of Meniere’s is unknown; however, it may be due to fluid blockage in the inner ear, viral infection, abnormal immune response, or allergies.
