The Defense Health Agency (DHA) provides corporate management and compliance oversight of strategic initiatives related to medical equipment planning, procurement, and sustainment activities in support of institutional military hospitals and clinics. As well, efforts are coordinated through the DMLPC-chartered Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Working Group.
Strategic Purchasing Initiative
Medical equipment items and systems are considered medical devices for acquisition, life cycle management, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The combined requirement for contracting of $100K and above, per system is coordinated via the HTM Working Group.
Standardized Contracting
The DHA, in collaboration with the military departments, identifies opportunities and strategies to reduce contract maintenance costs for medical equipment, including the consolidation of requirements for maintenance contracts and combined biomedical equipment technician training.
Sustainment
The intended outcomes of health care technology management are:
- Availability of the appropriate medical equipment for health services, and its safe and reliable operation
- Measurable savings in its acquisition and life cycle operation and sustainment
- Measurable improvements in equipment standardization, property accountability, and compliance with DOD and FDA standards for device identification
Cybersecurity of Medical Devices
- Coordination of cybersecurity efforts of medical devices (currently RMF) via the HTM Working Group.
