The Global Trigger Tool in the Military Health System Guide

The Global Trigger Tool in the Military Health System: An Implementation Guide for Inpatient Facilities provides the services and military treatment facilities leaders and staff with a resource for understanding what GTT is and how it will be implemented in the MHS. The Guide explains how military hospitals and clinics can use GTT data to measure, trend and assess harm; and how to leverage that data to inform patient safety improvements and prevent future patient harm events.

This Implementation Guide includes:

  • An overview of GTT.
  • A discussion of how GTT will be implemented in the MHS, along with roles and responsibilities for military hospital staff.
  • A description of the GTT methodology.
  • An introduction to the monthly data reports/tools that will be provided to the military hospital.
  • Step-by-step guidance for how to interpret GTT data.
  • Examples for how to present GTT data to military hospital stakeholders.
  • Recommendations for leveraging GTT and other patient safety data sources to identify opportunities to drive improvements in patient safety.
