The purpose of the Managed Care Pharmacy Residency (PGY1) Program is to develop pharmacists who are valued members of the health care team, so they can provide clinical and cost effectiveness evaluations to support the DOD Pharmacy & Therapeutic Committee. The resident will be able to provide pharmacoeconomic analysis, complete outcomes research and other DOD clinical initiatives and help to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes through the application of their knowledge.
Required experiences include:
- Formulary Management
- Drug Information and Drug Policy
- Direct Patient Care (Ambulatory Care)
- Pharmacoeconomics
- Leadership & Administration/Management
- Outcomes Research and Analysis
- Defense Health Agency (Falls Church, VA)
- Pharmacy Operations Center/PBM
Residents participate in the medication use evaluation process, present to the P&T Committee, precept student pharmacists, provide didactic lectures in the classroom setting, and develop and present continuing education programs. An original project, worthy of publication, is required.
