Advancing Readiness of the Force

GHE activities offer critical opportunities to build a ready medical and a medically ready force, reduce risks to the warfighter, and foster the mission-capable status of Partner Nations' forces so they can better contribute to globally integrated health services, rapidly respond to disasters or outbreaks, and partner in the fight against global threat networks. 

To guarantee that the Department remains the greatest joint fighting force in the world, we will continue to build unity of effort and mission across components, commands, services, and theaters. 

Building Partnership and Interoperability

GHE activities, including subject matter experts exchanges and joint exercises, enhance Partner Nation military medical capabilities and promote mutual awareness, familiarity, and confidence, thus improving response to disasters or outbreaks, contributions to globally integrated health services, and partnerships to advance shared interests to maintain regional stability and security. 

Protecting the United States of America requires teamwork at every level: state, local, tribal, and Federal. 

Enhancing Security Cooperation

GHE enhances security cooperation. GHE activities develop partner nation's critical capabilities and capacities, resulting in increased self-reliance. By building trust and cooperation, GHE activities often serve to facilitate partnerships in other sectors, further deepening our alliances. 

Our allies and partners are a force of multiplier and one of the greatest strategic assets we have in protecting our Nation.

GHE was codified in 2017 by DOD Instruction 2000.30, which defines GHE as interactions between DOD and partner nations' civilian or military stakeholders, in coordination with the USG interagency, to build trust, share information, coordinate activities, maintain influence, and achieve interoperability in health-related activities in support of the U.S. national security policy and military strategy.

Suggested social media message: Since 1994, the Colorado State Guard has conducted medical security cooperation with Slovenia. Every year, Guardsmen participate in Adriatic Strike, a Slovenian-led, multinational exercise that enhances interoperability and serves as a model for regional interoperability among Balkan partners.
