The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), Emergency Medicine Residency program was first established in 2011. University Medical Center (UMC) is the primary affiliated teaching location. Three out of the 36 months in clinical rotations are spent at the Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center located at Nellis Air Force Base. The remainder of the education and all didactics takes place at UMC, a large Level I rauma center.

Program highlights:

• The program was designed from the ground up by faculty from both community and academic backgrounds with a shared vision of creating a model for next-generation emergency medicine education.
• The goal is to prepare residents to confidently manage any patient in any situation, recognizing that success in modern emergency departments requires skills beyond just medical knowledge and procedures.
• The curriculum combines academic and operational training with hands-on experience in a high-acuity county hospital to prepare residents for the complex demands of today's emergency departments.
• The program leadership actively seeks resident feedback, engages in self-reflection, and refines the curriculum to stay at the forefront of EM education.
• The program fosters a strong sense of community and family among residents and faculty, encouraging a balanced lifestyle, community involvement, and leadership development.
• The aim is for the program to become one of the premier EM residencies in the country.
