Commander (Dr.) Sean P. Haight

Cmdr. (Dr.) Sean P. Haight currently serves as the officer in charge, Navy Medicine Operational Training Command Detachment, Naval Aerospace Medical Institute. He is also the designated institutional official overseeing the Navy’s only residency program in Aerospace Medicine.

Haight received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loyola University, New Orleans. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2010.

Haight’s career has taken him to both American coasts, as well as to Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe. He began his career as a surgical intern at the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, Maryland, before beginning flight surgeon training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. He then transferred to Marine Aircraft Group 13 as the flight surgeon for VMA 214, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona. He deployed as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and embarked aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard, LHD 6, in support of exercises Talisman Saber and Operation Koolendong. His deployment took him to Sydney, Brisbane, and Darwin, Australia, Hong Kong, Okinawa, and Japan. Haight then transferred to NAS Whiting Field, where he served as medical department head for Helicopter Training Squadron 8, Helicopter Training Squadron 18, and Training Squadron 3. During his final year he served as Wing Surgeon, overseeing all medical assets and responsibility for the health and readiness of all Training Air Wing Five personnel.

In 2018, Haight was selected as the Chief of Naval Aviation Training Command’s Flight Surgeon of the Year. He completed his residency in Aerospace Medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute aboard NAS Pensacola in 2020, serving as Academic Chief Resident during his final year. He next served as the Group Surgeon for Marine Aircraft Group 14 and was dual-hatted as the Senior Medical Officer, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, and the Senior Regional Flight Surgeon from July 2020 to August 2022. Haight was promoted to commander on Sept. 1, 2022, while deployed to the 6th Fleet Area of Responsibility as the Senior Medical Officer of the USS George H.W. Bush, CVN 77, and Strike Group Surgeon for Carrier Strike Group 10. During his first year, the ship was awarded the Purple “E” for Maintenance, Chief of Naval Operations Safety Award, and the Battle “E.” His department brought home its third consecutive Blue M and improved its Navy Surgeon General Blue H Award to Gold Star.

Haight’s personal awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is qualified as a Naval Flight Surgeon, Fleet Marine Force Officer, and Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer.
