The Naval Medical Center San Diego Infectious Disease Fellowship provides advanced training to acquire proficiency in infectious diseases with sufficient expertise to act as an independent consultant and meet the unique requirements of military-specific ID practice on an individual, population, and global scale. The military-unique knowledge and skills required in this specialty include understanding of and ability to manage deployment and travel related infections, emerging infections, diseases of pandemic potential and bioterrorism agents, management of outbreaks, infectious complications of combat trauma and infection prevention and stewardship in the deployed setting.
The mission and vision of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Naval Medical Center San Diego is to train U.S. military physicians as comprehensive experts in infectious diseases, ready to care for patients at home, at sea, and abroad. As military infectious disease physicians, our fellows will be able to function as bedside consultants, outbreak investigation leaders, and as academic researchers in support of our patients and of the Fleet.
