Director of Graduate Medical Education
U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. (Dr.) Amanda Deans serves as a member of the executive staff as the 81st Medical Group Director of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official. Lt. Col. Deans has the responsibility for oversight for the administration of the accredited graduate medical education programs at Keesler which encompass general surgery, internal medicine, advanced education in general dentistry, physician assistant, and doctor of nurse practitioner programs. She is responsible for assuring compliance with the accreditation bodies specific to each program.
Lt. Col. Deans is a 2008 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she earned a bachelor of science in biochemistry. Lt. Col. Deans went on to earn her medical degree at the University of Texas at Houston, Texas in 2012. In 2015, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Keesler Medical Center, Biloxi, Mississippi. Lt. Col. Deans completed her correspondence studies at Air Command and Staff College in 2018, and Air War College in 2023.
During her military career, Lt. Col. Deans has served as a staff physician, a medical director for multiple clinics, an internal medicine consultant to the United States Air Force Surgeon General, and as the program director of the Medicine Residency Program at Keesler Medical Center. Lt. Col. Deans is board certified in internal medicine.
Lt. Col. Dean’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air and Space Commendation Medal
Army Commendation Medal, Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal, Air and Space Longevity Service Award with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air and Space Training Ribbon.
