Director of Professional Education
Captain (Dr.) Elizabeth A. Frame serves as the Director of Professional Education and Designated Institutional Official of Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, in North Carolina. Capt. Frame oversees the training of more than 40 U.S. Naval Medical Corps officers in NMC Camp Lejeune’s three Graduate Medical Education and two Graduate Allied Health Education specialty programs. NMC Camp Lejeune prepares its graduates to serve the medical needs of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps across the globe in austere, operational, and humanitarian environments. As a practicing physician, Capt. Frame holds board certifications in family medicine and completed a fellowship in family medicine obstetrics. She is an assistant professor of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Her scholarly work includes current updates in obstetrical practice, as well as cardiac disease in women.
Capt. Frame graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and pre-medical studies. She received her medical degree from the USUHS in 2003. Capt. Frame completed a military residency in family medicine at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville, in Jacksonville, Florida in 2006, and a fellowship in FM obstetrics in 2013. Additionally, she completed a family medicine faculty fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2019.
After her initial residency training, she served as a staff physician at the Naval Hospital Okinawa in Japan. Upon her return to the United States, she served as faculty at the Naval Hospital Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida and later at NMCCL in North Carolina. In 2010, she deployed on the USNS Comfort in support of Operation Unified Response in Haiti. Later that year, she deployed to Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon completing her family medicine obstetrics board cortication fellowship at Camp Lejeune in 2013, she became associate program director in 2014, then program director in 2018 of the family medicine residency program at NMCCL. Capt. Frame most recently completed a tour as the Senior Medical Corps Detailer, which allowed her to understand the intricacies and challenges facing the Medical Corps in terms of its manning and operational needs.
Capt. Frame’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Capt. Frame has served on the national Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Advisory Group, offering input from the military perspective. She has been a member of Perinatal Advisory Boards at the local level at both Pensacola and Camp Lejeune, as well as for the Navy’s Women’s Health Clinical Community Advisory Board. Capt. Frame is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
