Health Resources Management & Policy

The Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Resources Management & Policy (HRM&P) is responsible for providing a cost-effective, quality health benefit to 9.5 million beneficiaries including active duty uniformed Service Members, retirees, survivors and their families. The Military Health System has an approximate $50 billion annual budget and consists of a worldwide network of

  • 50+ military hospitals,
  • 350+ health clinics,
  • private-sector health business partners, and 
  • the Uniformed Services University. 

Developing and maintaining this integral financial portfolio supports and promotes the MHS’s strategic imperatives.

Mission

HRM&P provides health resources funding management and direction from multiple sources, including the military Services.

Vision

Work to balance an integrated capability that keeps within budget to afford the best quality health care support possible for the beneficiary population as well as operational readiness mission requirements.

Areas of Responsibilities

  • Develops policies, procedures, and standards that govern the management of DOD health and medical programs 
  • Reviews, evaluates, and undertakes management oversight activities for DOD health and medical policies, plans, programs, and systems 
  • Serves as resource manager for all DOD health and medical financial, and other resources
