Corporal Graham M. McMahon died September 19, 2007, in Balad, Iraq, from a non-combat-related illness. The 22-year-old medic served with the 4th Battalion, 9th Infan­try Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division out of Fort Lewis, Washington, to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning from patrol with his unit, Corporal McMahon suddenly became ill and died en route to the hospital. A public memorial service was held in the auditorium at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Corvallis, Oregon.
