Sergeant First Class Gerard M. Reed died in Baghdad, Iraq, on June 11, 2008, while serving with the 86th Combat Support Hospital, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 40-year-old Army medic died from injuries he sustained in a non-combat-related incident. Reed served 22 years in the Army. He was buried in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
