United States Navy Hospital Corpsman Dustin Kelby Burnett was killed on June 20, 2008, in the Farah Province of Afghanistan, when the vehicle he was riding in deto­nated an improvised explosive device. The 19-year-old was a “Devil Doc” with the First Marine Division Detachment at Twentynine Palms, California. At the time of the incident, Burnett had been serving in Afghanistan for three months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On July 4, 2008, Burnett’s ashes were interred at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California, with full military honors.
