Sergeant John E. Allen was killed March 17, 2007, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of Fort Bliss, Texas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Al­len was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
