U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Second Class Cesar O. Baez perished from wounds incurred from enemy small arms fire on June 15, 2005, near Ramadi in Iraq. The 37-year-old was a Hospital Corpsman assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expedition­ary Force (Forward), based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His younger brother, Marine Staff Sergeant Roger Baez, who was stationed in Germany, escorted Cesar’s remains from Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, home to California.
